What Henry Ford Can Teach You About Internet Business

in Mindset

Take a look around you at your friends and relatives. Most of them are ‘content’ to work in a cubicle doing busy work, and unless you make some important choices and take action, you are destined to live out your days there, too.

What It Takes to Thrive

By show of hands, how many of you have had your life handed to you on a platter?

Not that many, I see.

To get what you want from life, you have to take life by the throat and choke it into submission to give you what you want. You have to create your own opportunities, your own successes, or somebody else will.

Napoleon Hill, in his amazing book Think and Grow Rich, gives a 13-step formula for turning desires into reality. Point by point, he describes how to acquire success.

Burning desire, backed by clarity of vision and persistent action, will put you on target every time.

No Man is an Island

Henry Ford, Christopher Columbus, Samuel Adams, and others are highlighted in the book as men who had a burning desire to accomplish, to discover, and to liberate,

Thanks to their clarity of purpose and persistence, we now have:

  • Unlimited choice of automobile styles
  • A rich country full of resources and opportunity
  • Freedom to pursue our happiness as we see fit

But none of those men accomplished anything of significance without the involvement of other people!

These great men attracted forces to themselves to help them achieve their vision, invited intelligent people to get involved, and relied upon those people to enhance their own knowledge.

Henry Ford once sued a Chicago newspaper for libel, after they labeled him “an ignorant pacifist.” When asked a particularly insulting question designed to highlight this “ignorance,” he angrily replied:

“If I should really WANT to answer the foolish question you have just asked…let me remind you that I have a row of electric push-buttons on my desk, and by pushing the right button, I can summon to my aid men who can answer ANY question I desire!”

Henry Ford understood that he couldn’t possess all the knowledge required to run his company. He understood that he needed the minds of other people to supply the knowledge he lacked.

In short, Henry Ford created the Ford Motor Company, not by himself, but through the aid of his Mastermind Group. Each of those men at the end of the electric push-buttons supported Ford and filled in the gaps in his knowledge.

How to Get Your Very Own ‘Electric Push-Buttons’

As illustrated above and in much greater detail in Think and Grow Rich, great success requires that you surround yourself with capable, intelligent people, and that you have humility enough to take their experience to heart.

Since you are reading this blog, you must be interested in doing great things with your online business. If so, then there is a ready-made group of talented, intelligent men and women focused on that same desire.

  • Great review. It reminds me of the book Good to Great as well of Jim Collins.
  • Thanks for your comments. "Good to Great" is on my reading list. Who is Jim
    Collins?
  • Hi Devin. Jim is the author of Good to Great.
  • Hah! That's funny that I didn't know the author's name!

    Thank you!

Have you read "Think and Grow Rich" yet? It has been absolutely pivotal in
my growth as a business person and as a human being living a life of
    purpose.
  • Hi Devin. Sometimes the book title is more popular than the author. That happened to me on more than one occasion.

I haven't read that book yet but will put in my reading list this year. Although sometimes I kinda feel that most "grow rich" books sound alike that made me stick more to "thinking skill" books like that of Edward De Bono and Tony Buzan.
  • Let me suggest that you fast-line Think and Grow Rich. Here's why:

It's not at all about "getting rich." Rather, the book's purpose is to teach
how to transmute DESIRE into its material equivalent. Yes, sometimes that is
money, but it's MORE than just money.

The book talks about how coupling a burning desire for "fill in your
greatest desire here" with faith, self-confidence, and harmonious
interaction with like-minded people will inevitably, invariably, lead to
    success.

As an example, I have a daily regimen that consists of focusing my thoughts
for 30 minutes daily on the task of thinking of the person I intend to
become, with full faith that it will gradually influence my thoughts and
actions so that I will become a self-reliant and successful person.

Plus, I focus 10 minutes daily on the task of demanding of myself the
    development of self-confidence.

As you can extrapolate, "RICHES" is waaayyyy more than just money. The book
has given me the specific tools I need to recreate myself as whatever I want
    to be.

In fact, most of the characteristics of the person I intend to become
revolve around my inner thoughts and how I view the world, with an equal
amount of focus on the type of father and husband I intend to be and the
life I intend to create for myself and my family.

(and apparently a TON of focus on run-on sentences!)

Again, it's about much more than money, it's about how I can create who I
    am.

    Word up!
  • Thanks for that Devin. I very much appreciate it. Will definitely seek it out and give you a buzz once I post a review. Cheers!
  • Fantastic post Devin. Just to drive the Mastermind group thing home a bit, I just got back from meeting with some of the San Diego Academy members where we all helped each other with our pressing business needs for the last 4 hours in person! We had a great time and everyone learned a lot. It is so great to hang out with people that 'get it' and want to chat about the same stuff. We are all there to assist each other in making our business dreams come true, it's fantastic to be a part of!
  • Putting together a local Mastermind group is indeed the goal, and in the meantime, you and Jay have put together one AWESOME online Mastermind group. Both will be beneficial.
